PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic stop control device for an on-vehicle internal combustion engine capable of ensuring a chance of the automatic stop of the internal combustion engine according to the traffic degree of a traveling road. SOLUTION: An ECU 38 determines the stop permission when the traveling distance after the engine 2 is started is not less than the engine stop permission traveling distance, and automatically stops the engine 2 when the predetermined stop condition including the stop permission is established. The ECU 38 detects the traffic degree of the traveling road based on the mean vehicle speed, and variably sets the engine stop permission traveling distance so as to be a small value when in heavy traffic.
