PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data setting method for a monitor system, which can remotely simply set a monitor area of each camera sensor installed in each room corresponding to each room based on the image of each room actually captured by an image pickup camera of each camera sensor and to provide a monitor system employing the method. SOLUTION: A data setting device 5 allows each of camera sensors 21 , etc., to transmit an image of each room 11 , etc., captured by the image pickup camera 20 of each of the camera sensors 21 , etc., installed on the ceiling of each rooms 11 , etc., via a network 4 by a compression form such as the JPEG in order to set monitor areas, and a monitor displays the image. A setting operator generates a drawn image of the monitor area by an image drawing function while viewing the image on the monitor, the data setting device 5 stores data of the drawn and generated monitor area in a bit map form, the data setting device 5 transmits the data to the camera sensors via the network 4 and a storage section 23 of each camera sensor stores the data.
