PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-diagnosis and/or self-correction tool much powerful in an image forming device and processing by proving a method for directly detecting the quantity of toner deposited on the surface of an image forming element. SOLUTION: In the image forming device having an image forming element (10) to pass an image forming station (12), the image forming station (12) is a place where the toner is deposited on the surface of the image forming element (10). The image forming element (10) has at least one electrode (22 or 24) extending over a predetermined surface area (20) of the image forming element and further. Such an image forming device has at least one capacitance measuring circuit (42, 58, 60 or 64) for measuring the amount of toner deposited on the predetermined surface area (20) on the basis of a resulting change in the impedance/capacitance of the electrode (22 or 24).
