PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp socket capable of securing the safety even in case a lamp of different rating is pushed in with an unreasonable force. SOLUTION: The lamp socket is composed of a socket body 1 furnished in the center with a projection 3 so that a lamp base 5 provided with a misuse preventing groove 4 is removably mounted at the tip of the projection 3 and having a storing recess 6 for storage of the projection 3 and an engaging means 2 to engage the lamp base 5 with the socket body 1 by rotating the lamp base 5, wherein the recess 6 is equipped internally with a rotary engagement member 7 to rotate together with the lamp base 5 and furnished on its inner bottom surface with a misuse preventing rib 8 to be inserted into the groove 4 upon penetrating the rotary engagement member 7.
