PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound for optical materials such as a lens having a high refractive index. SOLUTION: This aliphatic cyclic compound for the optical materials has an epithioethylene bond and/or an epidithioethylene bond in a cyclic part in the molecule, >=2 sulfur atoms in the molecule and a cyclic structure of a >=5- membered ring. The compound is represented by formula (1) [in formula (1), S denotes sulfur atom; (w) and (x) denote each 1 or 2; (y) and (z) denote each an integer of 0-2; and R1 , R2 , R3 and R4 denote each independently a 1-5C hydrocarbon group or hydrogen] and 1,2:4,5-diepithio-3,6-dithiacyclohexane represented by formula (3) is exemplified as a specific compound thereof.
