PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety in case that defrosting operation is carried out under a circumstance where ignitable refrigerant has leaked out in a refrigerator in which the ignitable refrigerant is used. SOLUTION: There is provided a cooling chamber 19 having an evaporator 10 of a freezing cycle where the ignitable refrigerant is applied, and a defrosting means 18 for defrosting the evaporator 10. The evaporator 10 is shaped in such a manner that its height is smaller than its depth. The defrosting means 18 is installed near the lower-most piping of the evaporator 10. Thereby, defrosting efficiency is raised, and a surface temperature of the defrosting means 18 is lowered, so that the ignitable refrigerant is prevented from catching fire.
