PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a disk array easily restorable to its available state even though the disk array is blocked up by a multiple failure of a disk drive. SOLUTION: A microprocessor 125 in a disk array controller 12 stores RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks) configuration information on a current table 126b just before blockage in a recovery table 126a and updates the RAID configuration information of the current table 126b to reflect a state after the blockage of the array when the array is blocked up due to a failure of a plurality of HDDs 111 in the disk array 11-i. If a recovery request is given in such a manner that a user operates an operation panel 128, the microprocessor 125 reads RAID configuration information of a designated disk array 11-i from the recovery table 126a, returns the array 11-i to the state just before the blockage according to the information and overwrites the information on the current table 126b.
