PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an axial length of a direct type valve system compact. SOLUTION: A lifter 7 is provided between a cam 6 and a valve stem 4. A sealed hydraulic lash adjuster 10 is incorporated between an end plate 8 of the lifter 7 and an upper end of the valve stem 4. The axial length of the valve system is made compact by arranging an end part on a stem pressing side of a valve spring 32 for pressing the valve stem 4 toward the cam 6 side on the outside of the hydraulic lash adjuster 10.
