PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deposition of magnetic particles at ends to a body to be electrostatically charged for a long period of time with simple constitution even in the case the body to be electrostatically charged is an amorphous silicon photoreceptor with an electrostatic charging device for a magnetic brush. SOLUTION: This electrostatic charging device 3 for the magnetic brush electrostatically charges the body 1 to be electrostatically charged by depositing the conductive magnetic particles 34a as an electrostatic charging agent on an electrostatic charging agent carrying member 33 as the magnetic brush 34 by the magnetic force of magnetic field generating means 32, bringing the magnetic brush in contact with the body 1 to be electrostatically charged and impressing a voltage thereto. The surfaces at the ends in the longitudinal direction of the electrostatic charging agent carrying member 33 are subjected to resistance increasing treatments 36, 37, 38, 39 and 35 toward the ends and the ends of the inner sides of the resistance increasing treatment regions are on the sides outer than electrostatic charging assurance regions and are the sides inner than the ends of the regions where the magnetic force is effective in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic field generating means.
