PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheath-type thermocouple, for a molten metal, in which the contact part of a temperature measuring junction at a metal strand with the inner face at the tip of a protective tube is improved, which restrains the disconnection of the metal strand as far as possible and whose responsivity is increased. SOLUTION: The temperature measuring junction 3 in which tips of metal strands 1, 2 are bonded to each other is bonded and fixed by a fixing agent 5 to the inside surface at the tip part 4c of the protective tube 4 composed of a ceramic. Other parts of the metal strands 1, 2 including the metal strands 1, 2 in the base end part 4a of the protective tube 4 are not fixed so as to be set to a free state. A film 4b which is composed mainly of alumina or titania is executed to the inner surface at the tip part 4c of the protective tube 4. As the fixing agent 5, an insulating material as an inorganic adhesive such as magnesia, zirconia, alumina or the like which does not contain silicon is used.
