PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically obtain a polyolefin having excellent copolymerizability, a high molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution and composition distribution. SOLUTION: An olefin is polymerized by using a catalyst comprising (A) a transition metal compound having a new structure and a transition metal of the group 3, 4, 5 or 6 of the periodic table, (B) an activated promoter (protonic acid, ionized compound, Lewis acid, and the derivative, aluminoxane, clay mineral, magnesium chloride compound, sulfonate, carboxylic acid derivative, surface-treated inorganic oxide, inorganic halide). And/or (C) an organometallic compound.
