PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the exchangeability of cooling water by allowing the flow of cooling water when an engine stops and prevent the formation of air stagnation due to vapor in a circulation passage. SOLUTION: This engine cooling device circulates cooling water and controls a degree of cooling of the engine 1 in accordance with an operation condition. The device is provided with a flow regulating valve 8 controlled to adjust a flow rate of circulating cooling water, and an ECU 30 opens the flow regulating valve 8 by a predetermined degree of opening when it judges that the engine 1 stops. Moreover, the ECU 30 makes the valve element butt against a fully closed position once and moves the valve element using the fully closed position as reference to determine the predetermined degree of opening in the valve opening control.
