PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface butting device capable of preventing an excessive load from applying to a surface butting detecting part. SOLUTION: A moving head 7 retaining one member 21A is moved in the butting direction, the opposite surfaces 41 and 43 of the mutually opposite one member 21A and the other member 21B are pushed by a prescribed pushing force, and the surfaces butt on each other while detecting the pushing force applied between the both members 21A and 21B by the surface butting detecting part 47. If the moving head 7 moves abruptly then, a shock absorber 49 absorbs and buffers an impact produced in one member 21A by the abrupt movement of the moving head 7 so as to prevent the excessive load from applying to the butting detecting part 47.
