PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aromatic compound having an unsaturated bond, soluble in an organic solvent, having excellent processability, capable of providing a coating film having excellent heat resistance, solvent resistance, low dielectric property and mechanical strength by curing, having extremely reduced content of impurity in the aromatic compound having the unsaturated bond, and further having a low dielectric constant and excellent electric stability. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the aromatic compound comprises reacting a formic acid salt with the aromatic compound having the unsaturated bond.
