PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for receiving pig iron, which safely and surely perform such an operation that a pan-type car receives molten pig iron tapped out from a blast furnace, through a lopsided flume. SOLUTION: This method for receiving pig iron is characterized by finishing pig-receiving (S29), and starting the next pig-receiving, when having judged that the quantity of the received pig iron is not excessive, from an elapsed time T starting from a pig-receiving time (YES at S21), that it reaches a predetermined quantity, from a value Yk which is obtained by reducing an error from an observed value for a surface level of the molten metal with a predetermined method (YES at S25), that the quantity of the received pig iron is not too few, from an elapsed time T (YES at S26), and that the surface level of the molten metal does not excessively fluctuate, from the changing quantity U for the observed values (YES at S28).
