PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a computer system to be started by a virtual floppy disk drive in a hard disk drive and to execute a ROM update tool in an environment where various drivers are not resident in ROM update of firmware of a BIOS(basic input/output system) and various devices in a computer system on which a floppy (registered trademark) disk drive is not mounted. SOLUTION: The virtual floppy disk drive in the hard disk is controlled by providing a menu 201 for storing virtual floppy disk mounting setting of the computer system, BIOS post-processing 202 and BIOS processing 203 capable of securing an area of a virtual floppy disk, discriminating the existence/non- existence of mounting of the virtual floppy disk and accessing the virtual floppy disk, and driver processing 204 capable of accessing a virtual floppy disk area on an OS.
