PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for a fuel cell, that is usable as a solid electrolyte layer for a fuel cell even at low temperatures, enables low-cost manufacture of a structurally simple fuel cell by dispensing with the use of a special material, superior in heat resistance as a member other than the solid electrolyte layer and with the arrangement of a heating means, such as a heater, and is durable enough to preclude strain, a gap, breakage and the like of each member constituting the fuel cell, even if the fuel cell is used for a long period. SOLUTION: The material for a fuel cell comprises a cerium gadolinium oxide, and the cerium gadolinium oxide is given by the chemical formula (1): Ce1-x Gdx O2-2/x , where 0.01<=x<=0.3. |
