PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety processing apparatus for waste with high energy efficiency by adjusting the flow rate of exhaust from a dryer 1. SOLUTION: A processing apparatus 21 for waste for processing waste containing water includes a dryer 1, a thermal decomposition furnace 10 for heat treatment, and a heating apparatus 12 for heating the drier 1. There are provided an exhaust blower 7 for sucking exhaust into an exhaust line 4 from the drier 1, and an apparatus 20 for adjusting a flow rate for adjusting the flow rate of exhaust. There are further provided a component measuring apparatus 5 including at least an oxygen concentration meter 22 and a hygrometer 23, and an exhaust flow rate meter 8. A control device 6 controls the apparatus 20 for adjusting a flow rate based on pieces of information from the component measuring apparatus 5 and the exhaust flow rate meter 8 such that humidity and oxygen concentration in exhaust from the exhaust line 4 take set values.
