PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermocouple, for a molten metal, which prevents the disconnection of a pair of metal strands inserted into, and passed through, an insulating sleeve housed in a protective tube and in which the durability of the protective tube and an outer protective tube protecting the protective tube is increased with reference to the molten metal. SOLUTION: The thermocouple 20 for the molten metal is constitutued of the protective tube 5 which is composed of a nonoxidative ceramic or a cermet and whose tip is closed, the insulating sleeve 2 which is inserted into the inside of the protective tube 5 and the pair of metal strands 1, 1a which are inserted into, and passed through, the insulating sleeve 2, whose tips are connected to each other so as to constitute a temperature measuring junction 12b and which are composed of one from among Pt-Rh/Pt-Rh, Pt-Rh/Pt and Ir-Rh/Ir. the insulating sleeve 2 is fixed to an open end part 5a at the protective tube 5.
