PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner having an inexpensive four-way valve driving device with a simple circuit structure in which a four-way valve can be switched without stopping the operation of a compressor even during a defrosting operation in a heating operation, and a power circuit or a switching circuit exclusive for the four-way valve is omitted. SOLUTION: The air conditioner for cooling and heating includes at least one of an inverter 12 for a compressor for respectively controlling the rotating speed of the compressor 2 and an outdoor fan 7 and an inverter 14 for the outdoor fan and the four-way valve 3 inverted to switch an operating mode when direct current for switching a prescribed direction is supplied to an exciting coil 3a only for a prescribed energizing time. The four-way valve driving device 21 supplies direct current for switching the four-way valve to an outside air temperature sensor 20 for detecting outside air temperature and the exciting coil 3a of the four-way valve by using the switching elements Tr1 to Tr6 of the inverter 14 for the outdoor fan and changes time for supplying the current to the exciting coil in accordance with the outside air temperature detected by the outside air temperature sensor.
