PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily determine an optimal hull shape in a short time. SOLUTION: A hull shape is indicated by a function. A variation function for indicating a variation between a determining hull shape and a reference hull shape is developed into a polynominal. Respective parameters of this polynominal are properly set within a design condition, and a value of the variation function is calculated. A value of a function for indicating the reference hull shape is added to a value of this calculated variation function, and the determining hull shape is calculated. A viscous resistance factor and a wave making resistance factor of a ship in this calculated hull shape are estimatively arithmetically operated, and the whole hull resistance factor by adding these estimatively arithmetically operated viscous resistance factor and wave making resistance factor is calculated. The hull shape corresponding to the whole hull resistance factor becoming minimum when successively changing the respective parameters of the polynominal is determined as the optimal hull shape.
