PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of ceramides decreased in the horny layer and to restore the barrier function and moisturizing function of the skin by restoring a ceramide producing mechanism inherent in the living body to the healthy state. SOLUTION: This ceramide production promoter comprises a plant selected from Eucalyptus globules Labill., Humulus lupulus L., Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Uncaria gambir Roxburgh, Rosa multifolia Thunberg, Aesculus hippocastanum Linne, Lilium candidum, Coix lacryma-jobi Linne var. ma-yuen Stapf, Typha angustifolia Linne, Eriobotrya japonica Lindley, Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, Saponaria officinalis Linne, Betula pendula Roth., Hydrangea serrata Seringe var. thunbergii Sugimoto (or Hydrangea macrophylla Seringe var. thunbergii Makino), Syzygium aromaticum Merrill et Perry (or Eugenia caryophyllata Thunberg), Carthamus tinctorius Linne, Sanguisorba officinalis Linne, Iris florentina L., etc., and Sophora flavescens Aiton or an extract, a steam distilled product or a pressed product thereof.
