Polyurethane filaments and fibres having an -NCO content of from 0.08-2.29% are produced by reacting (i) an hydroxyl polyester of M.W. at least 600 and prepared by reacting a mixture of at least two saturated aliphatic glycols having primary hydroxyl groups and from 2-6 C between the hydroxyl groups and an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 4-10 C with (ii) an aromatic diisocyanate and (iii) a saturated straight chain aliphatic primary diol having from 2-10 C, the ratio of molecules of aliphatic primary diol (iii) to polyester (i) being at least 2 and the total ratio of -NCO to -OH groups being 1.02 to 1.08, casting the reaction mixture into a mould and allowing to solidify and subsequently extruding the cast material to form filaments of fibres. Ferric acetyl acetonate may be present in the reaction mixture.
