PURPOSE:To reduce the exhaust amount of hydrocarbon by bringing gas containing a volatile organic halogenated compound into contact with a reducer in the range of specified catalyst cracking reaction temperature condition and in the presence of a metal carried catalyst and decomposing. CONSTITUTION:A volatile organic halogenated compound (for example, trichloroethylene, vinyl chloride or the like) is brought into contact with a reducer (for example, hydrogen gas) in the presence of a metal carried catalyst (for example, platinum catalyst) and decomposed. In that case, for example, gas mixing tanks 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A and catalyst filling columns 1B, 2B, 3B, 4B and 5B are disposed alternately in series so that the gas mixing tanks are positioned in the front stages of catalyst filling columns, and a treatment system is constituted of five (5) stages in the whole. In the treatment, the temperature in respective catalyst filling columns 1B-5B is set at 100-250 deg.C, preferably 120-200 deg.C. The exhaust amount of hydrocarbon produced by the decomposition reaction can be reduced by the arrangement. |
