A composition comprising a ribozyme that cleaves mRNA encoding a protein associated with a retinal disease, wherein the protein is selected from P23H mutant rod opsin, S334 mutant rod opsin, VEGF, eNOS, and iNOS. Also described is the use of this composition in the manufacture of a medicament for use in the treatment of a retinal disease.
