PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for adaptively detecting received data that can stably receive prescribed data, independently of diversified changes in a channel characteristics of a power line, in power line communication which employs the power line for the communication channel. SOLUTION: The apparatus, for adaptively detecting received signals for power line communication, is provided with an MCU interface section that regulates timing of data transmission, a register section that latches and outputs control data, a threshold value, an offset value and an error rate, a control logic section that controls selection of boundary value, a reference data selection section that selectively outputs the threshold, the offset value or an external threshold and an external offset value to the register section under the control of the control logic section, and a data processing section, that discriminates whether or not serial data received through a power line are valid and outputs the result.
