PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress changes in color of an image, due to ND filter based on a correction value corresponding to the density of the ND filter. SOLUTION: Light taken in through a lens 2 is imaged on a CCD 6 via an iris 3, the ND filter 4, and a shutter 5. An image signal output from the CCD 6 is sampled by a S/H circuit 7, is converted into a digital signal by means of an A/D conversion section 8, and then is inputted into an RGB separation section 9, to be decomposed into R, G, and B primary color signals. A microcomputer 21 calculates an R/G value and a B/G value from the R, G, and B primary color signals. In addition, the microcomputer 21 detects the density of the ND filter 4 from an area of the ND filter 4 which exists in the aperture of the lens 2 when photographing, and reads out a spectrally compensated quantity corresponding to the density from a recording section 22. The microcomputer 21 conducts spectral compensation of the ND filter, by adding the spectral compensation quantity to the R/G and B/G values.
