PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal which can reduce the power consumption of a display device. SOLUTION: The portable terminal is equipped with an image pickup element 104 which obtains image data by receiving reflected light from a subject, an image display device 102 which displays an image of the subject, a light source decision circuit 119 which decides the kind of a light source by observing variation in the quantity of light from the light source with time, a microprocessor 116 which varies the display frame frequency of the image display device 102 according to the decision result of the light source decision circuit 119.
