PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing system of high image quality which suppresses the occurrence of a chain-like peculiar pattern in a low concentration area in an error diffusion method. SOLUTION: In a quantization processing by the error diffusion method, a peripheral pixel where dots are formed in a previously determined range is detected among the quantized peripheral pixels near a target pixel. Dot formation in the position of the target pixel is limited by considering the concentration value of the peripheral pixel before quantization, the concentration value of the target pixel and the distance between both pixels. When the hue of the target pixel is cyan or magenta, cyan or magnet dot is detected in the detection of the peripheral pixel. When the target pixel has the hue except for them, only the dot of the hue similar to the target pixel is detected.
