PURPOSE: Provided is organopolysulfide which is obtained by the reaction of a compound of the formula(1) and sulfurmonochloride. Also, provided are a cathode active material comprising it and a lithium battery employing the cathode active material. CONSTITUTION: The organopolysulfide is manufactured by the reaction of a compound of the formula(1) and sulfurmonochloride. In the formula(1), R is hydrogen or CH3. When R represents hydrogen, the organopolysulfide is represented by the formula(2) and (C12H10O2S8)n. When R represents CH3, the organopolysulfide is represented by the formula(3) and (C14H10O2S8)n. The cathode active material characteristically contains the organopolysulfide and the lithium battery is characterized by applying the cathode active material.
