PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an unwanted low frequency component such as a moire from an outputted dot image. SOLUTION: In the data structure of threshold array, which is compared with input image data and outputs a dot image (dot image formed by the set pattern of dot cells 50 having dots constituted of one or more blackened pixels), data structure is formed in such a way that the dot where the differenceΔ=(Nma-Nmin) of the number of the blackened pixels for respective dots becomes 2<=Δ<=6 exists when the maxium value of the number of blackened pixels on the respective dots 47', 47a', 47b', 47c' and 47d' constituting the respective dot shells is set to be Nmax and a minimum value to be Nmin if input image data is that of the constant density.
