PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor and a data processing method which reduce an overhead of a device on a host side, and can obtain a superior data recording and reproduction. SOLUTION: The following devices solve the problems. A buffer memory 10 is divided into a plurality of storage regions 104 to 107, 119 for management, and reproduced data is stored in the first storage regions 104 to 106 of the plurality of storage regions 104 to 107, 119. A descriptor is downloaded from a host controller and the descriptor is stored in the second storage region 119. A programmable controller reads the descriptor from the second region, and data I/O operations and data storage operations of the buffer memory 10 are independently controlled from the host controller via a buffer memory manager based on this descriptor.
