PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly enhance the efficiency of using ions and to enhance the sensitivity of a mass spectrometer. SOLUTION: A perpendicular acceleration time-of-flight mass spectrometer accelerates ions in a direction perpendicular to the direction of introduction, and the ions reflected by reflection electrodes are detected by detectors disposed in positions determined by the ratio of introduction energy to accelerating energy. The mass spectrometer provides an introduction energy changing means 7 for changing the introduction energy of the ions in plural steps, an accelerating pulse generating means 4 for generating a constant accelerating pulse in synchronization with the change of the introduction energy, and the respective detectors 8 disposed at a plurality of positions determined by the ratio of each changed introduction energy to the accelerating energy, thereby detects the ions by the plurality of detectors.
