PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of always acquiring image data indicating an image having good quality by preventing the generation of any return distortion, and suppressing moire. SOLUTION: This image pickup device is provided with a photographing optical system 11 for forming an optical image by receiving a subject light, an image pickup element 14 for applying photoelectric conversion to the optical image formed by the photographing optical system, to convert the image into an image signal, and a driving control circuit 20 for controlling the driving of the image pickup element so that at least two scanning configurations, that is, the first scanning configuration that scanning is performed by using a plurality of pixels arranged on the image pickup face of the image pickup element without being accompanied with any thinning-out scanning and the second scanning configuration that scanning is performed by thinning- out a part of those pixels on the image pickup face of the image pickup element can be switched. The photographing optical system is constituted so that a plurality of optical low pass filters 12 for limiting the spatial frequency characteristics of an incident light flux can be included, and those low pass filters are respectively constituted of different spatial frequency characteristics, and the low pass filters are switched according to the first scanning configuration and the second scanning configuration.
