PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove influence due to the fluctuation of a multiplying factor from a video signal in each pixel unit in a charge multiplication type electronic solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: A second horizontal transfer path 8 is arranged in parallel with a first horizontal transfer path 6 for transferring a signal charge stored in the photodiodes of a light receiving area 2 to a horizontal direction. The signal charge transferred through the first horizontal transfer path 6 is multiplied by a first charge multiplying stage 15, and outputted as a video signal from an output terminal 18. The second horizontal transfer path 8 is arranged with charge pouring parts 12 for storing the signal charges corresponding to the stored charges of the photodiode transferred through the first horizontal transfer path 6 only by the number corresponding to photodiodes for one horizontal scanning line, and the signal charges are poured into the second horizontal transfer path 6. The poured signal charges are applied to a second charge amplifying stage 16 so as to be multiplied, and outputted as a compensation signal from an output terminal 20. The video signal outputted from the output terminal 20 is corrected by pixel units by using the compensation signal outputted from the output terminal 20.
