CHIP-IN-GLASS FLUORESCENT CHARACTER DISPLAY TUBE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip-in-glass fluorescent character display tube having filament-shaped cathodes disposed at small pitches to reduce the load of each filament for a longer life. SOLUTION: An IC is positioned on the inner surface of an anode base which constitutes an envelope and a retaining plate 11 is positioned across the IC on the anode base. A first support 30 and second support 40 are positioned in combination on the retaining plate to stretch the filament-shaped cathodes and are welded to the retaining plate. Both supports are provided with anchors 33 and 43 at the tips of their respective sawtoothed parts 32 and 42 and the anchors are arrange alternately at pitches half those of the original supports. The first and second supports are welded to the retaining plate at the sawtoothed parts arranged side-by-side without overlapping (welded part 50a). The large plate part 30 of the first support covers the small plate part 40 of the second support and is singly welded to the retaining plate 11. Because a stack of three plates is not used, the amounts of welding burrs are small.
