PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk controller which is capable of stabilizing tracking even when an abnormal error signal occurs and is capable of restoring control in an early period. SOLUTION: This disk controller has an optical disk 1 rotationally driven by a spindle motor 2, photodetecting means 3 for detecting the reflected light of the optical disk 1, moving means 22 for moving a light spot in the direction perpendicular to the recording surface of the optical disk 1 and in the radial direction of the optical disk 1, position error detecting means for discretely detecting the estrangement quantity between the position of the photodetector means 3 and the position optimum for detecting the reflected light, variation detecting means 36 for detecting the variation of the estrangement quantity in accordance with the estrangement quantity detected in the past and the present estrangement quantity, variation abnormality detecting means 37 for outputting a variation abnormality detection signal when the variation exceeds the prescribed threshold and control means 20 for controlling the light spot so as to attain the optimum position on the optical disk according to the variation abnormality detection signal.
