摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit discharges by establishing a potential distribution which will not bend the trajectory of an electron beam on the surface of an atmospheric pressure support member and which avoids field concentration, even if factors exist that may disturb a potential distribution on the surface of the atmospheric pressure support member from a direction parallel to the faceplate and the rear plate of a hermetic container which accommodates a source of electron beams, in an image display device in which the atmospheric pressure support member is positioned inside the hermetic container to support the faceplate and the rear plate. SOLUTION: A spacer 1201 which supports the faceplate 1007 and the rear plate 1005 is divided into an A-area 1205 which corresponds to an image display area D, a C-area 1207 which corresponds to a potential defining electrode 1106, and a B-area 1206 between the A-area 1205 and the C-area 1207. The surface resistance of the B-area 1206 is made greater than the surface resistances of the A-area 1205 and the B-area 1206.
