PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin separator sufficiently passing gas generating in overcharge of an alkaline secondary battery, suppressing increase in pressure inside the battery, and preventing short circuit. SOLUTION: This separator for a battery preventing short circuit, suppressing increase in internal pressure, having high safety is obtained by solving problems that short circuit is caused by piercing the separator with the burr of an electrode or blocking the pores of the separator with active material particles gradually released from the electrode in repeated charge/discharge by keeping the uniformity and realizing small pore size of a nonwoven fabric with recessed and projection parts formed on at least one surface of the nonwoven fabric manufactured by a wet process.
