PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network supervisory system and a network supervisory method in an optical submarine relay cable system, that can realize management of a main signal sub-network such as an optical submarine relay cable, and by the management of the entire main signal network. SOLUTION: A plurality of on-land stations A, B, etc., are interconnected by a submarine cable via a submarine repeater 4, each on-land station is provided with a submarine cable terminator 2, a submarine repeater inspection device 3, and a supervisory device 1, the respective supervisory devices 1 are interconnected via a data communication network 5, the supervisory device 1b of the on-land station B detecting an alarm receives alarm information from the supervisory device 1a of the opposed on-land station A via the data communication network 5 and identifies whether the alarm results from a device fault in the opposed on-land station A or result from a fault of the submarine repeater 4a in the vicinity of the on-land station A so as to identify a cause to the fault. Thus, the system can supervise a block between the own on-land station and the opposed on-land station.
