A guitar synthesiser control has optical transmitter receiver pairs (6, 22-20) above each string (5) to detect the start and end of a note by the plucking or stopping of a string with pitch set by the sum of voltages from the sensors and a resistance chain at the finger position fed from a current source (4). Includes an INDEPENDENT claim for a version using pivoted switches instead of optical sensors.
