PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminous element with good red color purity. SOLUTION: The luminous element contains between a pair of electrodes made on a substrate at least one of chemical compounds expressed in formula (I) and also contains as a principal component a compound of which a configuration of an alkenylene group, an imino group or a diazo group substituting a pyran ring and its analogs among stereoisomers of the compound in formula (I) has an s-transformer configuration against a double bond of both the pyran ring and its analogs. R<1> to R<5> in the formula stands respectively for H or substituents; X stands for O, S, N-RY<1> , RY<1> stands for H or a substituent; L11 , L12 stands respectively for a methine group, a substituent methine group or N; n stands for an integer of 1 to 3; and Ar stands for an arylene group or a bivalent aromatic heterocycle group. R<x> , R<y> stand for H or substituent and at least either of them stands for an electron absorption group. The compound expressed in formula (I) can be one forming a metal complex.
