PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal fixing device of a simple structure in, which energization time for a fixing heater is shortened to reduce integrated power, and to provide a thermal fixing device in which a surface type heater consuming little quantity of power is employed to heat a fixing roll from outside, so that the energizing time for the heater is shortened thereby reducing integrated power. SOLUTION: The thermal fixing machine is provided with a guide that is freely closable conducting a recording medium to paper feeding and ejecting openings of the thermal fixing device and the guide is controlled so as to be opened, when feeding and ejecting the recording medium to and from the thermal fixing means. Furthermore, the guide is provided with a heating means, and control is carried out so that the heating means is heated in residual heat mode.
