PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for electronically storing/retrieving an engineering design document and information. SOLUTION: In this method and system for an electronic design recording book(e-DRB), a software module 167 electronically stores and retrieves documents 203-209 by using a product data managing tool 153 and an interface. Those documents are related with engineering design information in the life cycle of a product. The documents are stored in an article 201, and meta data 211 and an attribute 213 are associated with this article. A user is able to check out the article for editing this, and to check in the article for allowing another user to read this article. The e-DRB is provided with a retrieving function based on the meta data information. It is possible to perform access through a network 159 such as the Internet to the e-DRB.
