The automobile bodywork (1) comprises a rear loading floor (6) on which two lateral uprights are fixed. Each upright comprises a wheel arch (7) and a lateral upright armrest constituting a part of the compartment side. The two armrest uprights are held in their upper part by a rear window crosspiece (19) adapted to support the roof. There are rigidifying means (11,15) for a lateral upright so as to allow the forces subjected to by the bottom of the bodywork during running of the vehicle to be passed directly to the upper crosspiece.
