For nocturnal visibility, photoluminescent film (2) is adhered over the entire surface of a rigid panel (1). This is then selectively masked by cut-outs (3) from a second opaque film in contrasting color. The cut-outs form visible characters on the photoluminescent ground. The process is assisted by a marking unit comprising a tri-layer. This includes a protective sheet and an adhesive layer. It permits selective cut-out, adhesion and release.
