Substituted thiazolidinedione derivative, process for its preparation and its pharmaceutical use

A hydrate of 5-[4-[2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino) ethoxy]benzyl] thiazolidine-2,4-dione,maleic acid salt for use in treating conditions associated with diabetes mellitus, characterized in that it comprises water in the range of from 0.3-0.6molar equivalents; and a process for its preparation. Such a hydrated form is more suitable for bulk preparation and handling than the previously known anhydrous form.
