A process for removing nitrogen oxides from a gas stream. The process comprises: feeding a nitrogen oxides-containing gas stream to a nitrogen oxides adsorption system, whereby the nitrogen oxides are adsorbed; and feeding an ozone/oxygen containing gas stream to the adsorption system, whereby the ozone reacts with the nitrogen oxides to form N2O5.
