The can opener consists of a head with an oblique handle forming a double lever. The first lever (L1) is operated to prise open the lid of a can by inserting the tip of the head under its edge and pressing down on the lever; the second lever (L2) is operated by rotating it so that the two sections (1, 2) of the head tip turn under the edge of the lid and lift it above the rim of the can. The head of the lever is made from hard, e.g. tempered, steel, while its handle can be of soft steel, wood or plastic.
