The control or shut-off valve has the valve plate (3.1) mounted on shaft (4) in doubly eccentric fashion in the casing (1). The axial eccentricity (ez) is more than 0.5 times the nominal width of the valve. The radial eccentricity (ey) is ez/(1.5 - 2.25) for valves with a nominal width not more than 400mm and ez/(2.25 - 3) when this is more than 400 mm. The valve plate has a stepped frustro-conical shape whose largest diameter is 1.2 times the nominal width and whose smallest diameter is 0.6 -0.7 times it.
